With A Great Wardrobe, Comes Great Responsibility . . . Right?

So for the past few days I've been obsessed with mainstream fashion inspired by movies and books. Pinterest has only fueled my enthusiasm, as well as introducing me to a website called Polyvore. If you don't already know, and if you aren't on board with Pintrest (no pun intended. But really, be just a a tiny bit thankful if you aren't ;p), Ployvore is the website to shop and create as many outfits as you want. In other words, it's a magical place that reminds me of the days I got to dress up dolls, though now it seems much more sophisticated, yet just as time consuming.

A few weeks ago I saw The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and I absolutely loved it! My brother, the comic book nerd, had some picky things to say about it (slight differences, a bit of added plot, ect.), but I thought it was a wonderful film - not to mention Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. (*Insert swoon here*) Their chemistry on the big screen is amazing, and I had no doubt that I wasn't watching Peter and Gwen; however, A+ casting wasn't the only thing I loved about the movie. Overall the film was beautiful, from the camera work to the costume design. And it was Gwen's wardrobe that had me falling head-over-heels. Absolutely gorgeous! So I decided, after hours and hours of searching Pintrest, to make an account of Polyvore and I created a few ensembles that resemble Gwen's in the film.

Most of the clothes I found are under $80, and even though I'm personally unable to willingly fork over that much on a top, mostly everything I found on Polyvore are available at Old Navy, Forever 21, and Banana Republic. And you can probably find similar items anywhere, especially if you are willing to do some digging.

Warning!!! Spoiler Alerts below! (just in case)

Look #1- Date Night

Let's start with my favorite! The iconic Gwen Stacy look. Inspired straight from the comic book itself, Gwen is shown wearing a light blueish-green overcoat with a purple ensemble underneath. She wears this towards the end of the film, while fighting off electro and Harry alongside Peter. I also absolutely love the contrast between the purple and the soft blue.

This chevron-esque zigzag shirt mimics the effect of pattern Gwen has in her outfit. Any purple blouse will do, as long as it contrasts with the solid fabric of the skirt. Add a pair of patterned black tights underneath black knee-high boots. To finish off the look, add a teal or mint green coat that resembles Gwen's. This one is more green than blue, but I still like the silhouette. And I am aware that it's summer now, but this look would be perfect for those colder months.

Look #2 - A Day at Work

This outfit is actually from the first film, but it came up often enough in my searches that I made my own. Gwen looks great in her lab coat! It is also a great, clean, simple outfit that would be wonderful for a professional environment. I wanted to try to recreate something that would resemble her lab outfit, though I know I will probably never work in a lab, with the English degree and all. But I guess you never know.

To snag this look, first start with a black and white striped tee tucked into a simple black skirt. Instead of an Oscorp lab coat, swap it out and go for a crisp white blazer. To finish off the look, make sure to grab those black boots. I may not be a scientist, but I'll still look polished and professional for the casual work place.

Look #3 - Lunch on the Town

Gwen wears this while going out to lunch with her friends while Peter watches her from afar. Though this outfit isn't worn for very long in the movie, its one of my favorites. It was also a nice change to see her in something other than a skirt, boots, and a blazer! The combination of the jeans and blazer looks wonderful, and the blue makes her blond hair look stunning.

Get The Look:

Start this look off with a blue floral blouse. In the film her beret is a beautiful green, but I managed to find a white one that compliments the shirt better than the green one would. For the bottoms, find some dark wash skinny jeans and slip into a cute pair of pastel oxfords for that pop of color that doesn't compromise comfort. And, of course, Gwen sure does like her blazers. Finish this look off with a nice blue blazer and an easy to carry messenger bag

I could go on forever about her wardrobe. It's classy, sometimes preppy, but always classic. If anything, invest in some blazers, a few skirts, a pair of skinny jeans, and some black or brown leather boots and you'll have most of Gwen Stacy down! Now if only Andrew Garfield was my boyfriend . . .
